OpenArena is not an id Software game nor part of the Doom or Quake series. It is, however, an open-sourced recreation of Quake III and is made from code from id Tech 3. It began production in 2005 and so far is only in version 0.8.8 but it is playable and enjoyable nonetheless. I encourage everyone to give it a try.

It's essentially FreeDoom but Quake III. It runs on Windows, Linux and Mac and there are ports of it to other systems.

Tried it once. I know only one guy who plays it, sadly. :(

Maybe one day people will make a proper doom game in id Tech 4. I like how they open-sourced their code - it allows 5 people to work on it.

I tried it 5 years ago, it was alright. I liked Quake 3 a lot more. Still, it's a nice alternative to Quake 3 and Quake Live. ;)
