These days i worked on new Heretic mod - The Beginning. (well in title
it's misspelled begining but you don't mind, right?) I tried to do everything
to make new maps with better quality than my older maps. I added more
details and lightning in my maps now. Indeed, for first two levels
i used oblige generated levels as a base but i heavily modified them so
they don't like obliged anymore :) for levels 3,4 and 5 i used my
own scratch base. ;) The mod Beginning also known as Beginning OF THE
DARK MAGIC. It's a prequel to Heretic/Hexen franchise. You take role
of Korax when he was still human and good guy. This explains a end
of Heretic a Heresiarch picture, that meant Heresiarch is originally
planned to be second serpent rider. This prequel mod explain why he
didn't become! Read storyline carefully:

STORYLINE:

Events are happening 100 years before Serpent Riders conflict. You
are Korax, one of greatest hero in your lands. However, evil dark
magician Menilkir the First (a great grandfather of Menilkir you
fought in HeXen Beyond Heretic) attacked your lands and bring lava
and fire to them. You fight his evil creatures through the lands
until you finds his Volcano and battle Menilkir himself. After
defeating Menilkir an portal opened. However, when you step though
it, you see yourself in lava and fire and start hearing Menilkir's
curse in your ears! You woke up and see your self to Serpent Riders
Keep, where DSparil and Heresiarch wating for your arrive. Eidolon
the elder brother of DSparil and Heresiarch releases that after
Menilkir's evil curse Korax became demon and got alot of powers, so
Eidolon makes decision to downvote Heresiarch to just seminary guardian
and place Cursed Korax in place of Heresiarch as a second Serpent Rider.
This explains that Korax is adopted to Serpent Rider brothers, but he
isn't their biological brother. So this story explains how Korax became
evil and Second Serpent Rider.

BUGS: E1M5 crashes for no reason sometimes so i recommend to save little before ending of E1M4 because of that, and E1M3 have sector looks glitched and ugly near the end of level. If someone know how to fix these please help me! I'll put you in credits!

1) First 2 levels are really good since they were generated by OBLIGE, however maps 3, 4 and 5 aren't that good. They are ok beginner maps, just not great. Level 3 also has some weird texture bugs (look at one of my screenshots)
2) I like how you combined Heretic and Hexen together (feels satisfying to smash Heretic monsters with Timon's Axe or using Dragon Claw on Hexen monsters)
3) The new evil laughter when you pick up a weapon fits perfectly Fighter's voice. Same goes to the death sound.
4) Your skin is Fighter, so it makes sense to use Fighter's weapons (though Hammer is missing for some reason). Though I would have liked if you had your own skin because I don't think Korax was a fighter 100 years ago.
5) I liked the ending.

Now the bad parts:

1) Why do my Gauntlets disappear when I pick up Crossbow? I can't use that anymore to punch monsters to save ammo, even if there is enough ammo in levels, I sometimes wished to punch Ettins and Golems in face with fist but can't do that anymore. I had to use Axe. ;)
2) Why when you kill a boss, the level ends immediately? I haven't even finished using Flasks to get my health back to 100, instead I started next level with 60 and 92 health respectively instead of 100. Plus that I didn't even pick up new armor, though the levels are easy, so you shouldn't have trouble with dying (with exception of last battle)
3) Why are there texture errors? You should have fixed the textures from level 3.
4) Why are there OBLIGE generated levels? I think you should have made all maps by yourself.
5) Why when I start next game, I don't have difficulty setting? I checked on console by pressing SKILL command and it said Skill 2, which is Medium because in ZDoom, skills are like that: (0 -> Very Easy, 1 -> Easy, 2 -> Medium, 3 -> Hard, 4 -> Very Hard). Since I like hard difficulty, I typed skill 3 and then map E1M1 to get skill changed, though I'm not sure if maps support other skill levels.


Overall I give a 7/10 and hope to see more mods like these in future. :rockon:


Thanks for your feedback but i can explain bad things.

1.) I didn't noticed this bug at all. Maybe KEYCONF error?
2.) I wanted to bosses end level since ZDoom have already made map specials for them so i used it, and i like it
3.) I tried but i can't fix texture error.
4.) Yes but you said that i modifed them so heavy good so they don't look Obliged anymore. I just want a map base for my own maps :)
5.) I removed skill system since i don't use it. I used "noskillmenu" option in MAPINFO

Also you mentioned screenshots but i didn't got any screenshots on mail or here? Please explain.

However, I don't have any of them on PC anymore. They are lost forever :( So i will have to make new screens from scratch. :yes:
