Does anyone here know how to use Zdoom's 'A_CheckRange' to make it do stuff?

Basically, say I have a decoration item like a light, and 6 sprites for it. I want it to change sprite depending on the range to the player.

But I have no idea how this is done, I don't really do decorate.
