 Post subject: [Community Project] Heretic - The Outer Worlds

As the Doom Universe is stagnating, I believe we should create a big project. As your saw for my WIP, I have been experimenting in mapping for Heretic.
We should create a ZDoom project that takes place after the events of The Stagnant Demesne but before Heretic II.
Spoiler: Weapons
Weapons
As for weapons, there should be three player classes. These weapons should be upgradeable (that is, a new weapon pickup) and upgrades can be switched between. I do not know how we shall implement them, however.
They should be:
  • Staff -> Spear -> Sword
    Staff - just the regular staff
    Spear - new haft with a blade
    Sword - totally new design
  • Leather Gauntlets -> Spiked Gauntlets -> Gauntlet of the Hero
    Leather - new design, no spikes, green attack
    Spiked - original design, blue attack
    Hero - polished silver, fireball attack
  • Elven Wand -> Frozen Wand -> Swamp Wand
    Elven - same as always
    Frozen - blue, single ice shard attack, freezes enemies, can destroy projectiles (maybe)
    Swamp - green, projectile similar to hexen stalker

Spoiler: Classes
Classes
Nowadays, all good games have player classes. Like HeXen, this game could benefit from player classes.
  • Adventurer/Scout
    Greatest speed, medium health (80), can only take silver shield, Staff
  • Hero
    Lowest speed, best health (100), can use all armour, Gauntlets
  • Sorcerer
    Medium speed, low health (70), cannot use armour, Elven Wand
It would be interesting to have a secret room where there is a different big monster for each player class, however, I do not know anything of the kind.

We will need mappers, sprite editors (I'll do recolouring), DECORATE and MAPINFO programmers.
Anyone willing to help?

These days i can't help, but only i can say good luck with this project. If i can do something, i would like to be an "BETA tester" or MAPINFO programmer.

Sounds really interesting. You need to get someone well advanced in Heretic/Hexen mapping for the main stuff, someone who'll make the maps really fun.

I'm not as big a fan of Heretic/Hexen as you guys probably are, but I would help with map detailing and eye candy. I really love dark castles and outdoor environments.

Count me in, I'll do a damn comeback right now.

If you want me to do maps, I will need some sort of plans first though... I have noticed that I am really terrible with improvising stuff ...
Actually a sketch or a simple example map of an idea or something could be enough..
I dont know, I haven't mapped in so damn long time (excluding my ZDoom Wars map project I was working on some time ago

The most comfortable I am thse days is doing weird ACS / DECORATE stuff, this is mostly because of all the work I've done on ZDoom Wars again.
Another thing I like these days is sprite editing... I can do that quite decently because of.. ZDOOM WARSSS again.. lol :lol:

Usually the problem with this kind of projects is the lack of organization and planning...
I think things need rly good plans (pretty much like the Evil Incarnate had ... R.I.P. I loved that project :| )

The more people there are doing stuff.. the more motivated I willl most likely be.. I really need a teamproject of some sort to get back in I think, maybe I should do a thread about that ZDoom Wars faction I've done aswell, dont know yet.

Alright, I'll try to draw a few, mind you, I'm not great at it.
But for episode 2 (ep 1 is tutorial), there will be mainly tower/dungeon maps.

Ah, BRILLIANT!
Yes, I will do DECORATE for the weapons but if you could make cutscenes and other things like that, it would be great! As for sprites, can you draw weapon sprites?

Dungeons and that kind of things are really what I like the most.. so yay XD
